Hunting Checklist Page One

Background

Recommended:-

  • A written contract
    Including: Hunt dates, Name(s) of PHs, Daily rates, Observer rates, Taxes, Licence/permit fees, Animals required and fees, Cancellation/return of deposit terms, Services provided/not provided.
    Specifying: Special requirements, food & beverages, bottled water, trophy requirements/expectations, Health limitations.
    Requesting: Accepted forms of payment, An idea of gratuities/gifts for staff, Visa/firearems import requirements, Description of hunt area(s), Hunting methods.
  • A heavy rifle - 60 rounds (40 solid, 20 soft), A medium rifle - 80 rounds / rifle (soft?), A shotgun - 200 rounds # 5-7
  • Register on Customs form 4457 - Guns, camera, binoculars, other valuables for proof that they were not purchased out of the country.
  • Coordinate with Taxidermist - Freight costs, CITES permit requirements, Port of entry, Shipping tags.
  • Physical condition - Blisters and aching muscles can eliminate many days of pleasure. You should start a programme of regular exercising e.g. swimming/jogging/cycling, at least 90 days prior to your trip.
  • Weapon proficiency - Practice shooting from all possible situations i.e. offhand, off sticks, off a tree, prone.
  • Vaccinations - Check what is required/recommended several months before your trip, get an antibiotic prescription.
  • Check with customs/airlines - Firearms/ammunition limitations, luggage weight limitations. (Each client must keept baggage at max 44lbs (20kgs) excluding firearms)
  • Insurances- Check health, homeowner, trip cancellation and air/ambulance insurances.
  • Documents - leave copy with family member of passport, travellers cheques, customs form 4457, safari contract, credit cards and contact info for issuing bank, itinerary with phone and fax numbers and name and details of safari outfit.
